Yonkers Police Department Holds Appointment and Promotion Ceremony.
Yonkers, NY – Today, Mayor Mike Spano and Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza presided over a ceremony that added 13 new Probationary Police Officers to the Yonkers Police Department, as well as recognized 6 members of the department who have previously been elevated to positions of higher ranks and responsibilities. The event took place at the Riverfront Library in the presence of dignitaries, family, and friends.
Of the new hires, nine join the Yonkers Police Department from neighboring jurisdictions and will be entering our patrol force shortly. We welcome their experience and are grateful that they chose to continue their law enforcement careers here in Yonkers.
The other new members are police recruits and are scheduled to enter the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Police Academy where they will attend Basic Recruit School next week. This is a 21-week program including courses in police science, law, physical fitness training, and more before entering Field Training and being assigned to their patrol commands.
