Yonkers Insider: News from New York State Assemblywoman MaryJane Shimsky 92nd District.

$33 Million Resurfacing Projects for
Central Avenue and Route 9A.

I am very excited to share that the NYS Department of Transportation has begun long-needed work to improve conditions and promote resiliency along two of our key local corridors:

$17 million project for State Route 100 (Central Avenue)

A 4.5-mile section of State Route 100 will be refurbished from Underhill Avenue in the City of Yonkers to the City of White Plains line. The northbound portion is anticipated to be complete in Fall 2024, with the southbound complete in Fall 2025.

$16 million project for State Route 9A (Briarcliff-Peekskill Parkway)

A 7.1-mile project is also being undertaken to resurface State Route 9A from State Route 133 in the Town of Ossining to Maiden Lane in the Town of Cortlandt. State Route 9A is anticipated to be complete in the Summer of 2025.

These projects will boost safety and mobility while supporting statewide sustainability efforts and furthering the long-term durability of New York's infrastructure. The work consists of milling the existing pavement and resurfacing with a warm-mix, fiber-reinforced asphalt overlay that’s longer-lasting, more durable, and will minimize cracking. Grooved inlaid striping with reflective epoxy paint will be added to increase the visibility of pavement markings during storms. Additionally, traffic signals will be upgraded, drainage improvements will be included in the project, and curb ramps, where present, will be made compliant with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidance.

To minimize impacts to the traveling public, all work will be conducted during nighttime hours with single lane closures during paving operations. While construction is underway, please stay alert for your safety and that of our road crews.
