Dear Friends and Neighbors,
On this Memorial Day, may we be inspired by the patriotism of the brave men and women who gave their lives in defense of our great nation and those who continue to serve here at home or overseas.
The City of Yonkers takes great pride in paying tribute to its Veterans and recognizing them for their courage and commitment to our nation.
I am proud to share our City has been officially designated as an American World War II Heritage City by the National Park Service's American World War II Heritage Cities Program. The prestigious designation recognizes Yonkers' significant contributions supporting the war effort. It's a testament to our City's deep respect for its history and will continue to honor the legacy of generations before us.
I welcome all of you to attend the many events and ceremonies being held around Yonkers in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice.
This morning at 9:00 a.m., the City of Yonkers will hold a special Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Plaza on South Broadway at City Hall.
As you enjoy this day, may you also be reminded of what it truly means to live with freedom in the United States of America.
MIKE SPANO
Mayor
