The 2024 Legislative Session resumed following Orthodox Easter/Passover Holiday. This week started with a meeting with representatives from the PBA of New York State. We discussed crucial legislation related to pension equity. Ensuring that our Law Enforcement servants receive fair and secure pensions. During Nurses Appreciation Week, we honored our nurses for their extraordinary dedication and the care they provide to their patients. Their compassion, expertise, and tireless commitment to patient well-being is commendable. I met with representatives from the American Nurses Association to outline our post-budget legislative priorities. The input provided by nurses is invaluable in shaping healthcare policies that benefit both patients and healthcare professionals alike. Furthermore, I met with representatives of Westchester Moms Demand Action. We discussed legislative priorities such as the School Anti-Violence Education (SAVE) Act and the Secure Storage Notification Act. Ensuring the safety of our schools and communities remains one of my top priorities, and I am committed to working towards common-sense solutions to prevent gun violence. Alongside AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) New York and supportive state lawmakers, I participated in their Lobby Day advocating for affordable prescription drugs, especially for Senior New Yorkers. I attended Life Insurance Council of New York (LICONY) Day on the Hill Reception, where I gained valuable insights into the priorities and laws affecting the life insurance industry. As a lifelong educator, I had the privilege of speaking on a resolution to proclaim May 7, 2024, as Teacher Appreciation Day in the State of New York. This gesture serves as a token of our gratitude for the vital role that teachers play in shaping the future and underscores the importance of recognizing their hard work and dedication. Kudos to the Yonkers Federation of Teachers! I again call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza! I urge all involved parties to engage in negotiations for a lasting peace agreement, which includes the release of all hostages and prisoners. Additionally, it is imperative that the international community promptly addresses the hunger and starvation affecting the population in Gaza. From the start of this conflict, over 35,000 have died.
