Dear Friend:
As the legislative session approaches the end, I'm fighting for my priority bills to make it over the finish line. I'm fighting to ensure Extreme Risk Protection Orders are easily available to police departments; to require notice to parents about safe storage of guns in their homes; to get EMS workers declared "emergency workers", to require school boards to have a student member on their board, and much more. These bills reflect my approach to legislating - fight for things that will actually improve the lives of New Yorkers, regardless of where they live.
I also continue to lead the way on education, sponsoring the bill that finally changes the evaluation system for teachers and administrators so they don't "teach to the test", but are evaluated based on observation and commitment to the state's education framework. To that end, I was honored to join the NYSUT Representative Assembly and speak before thousands of teachers and school staff about our work to invest in public education.

Thank you to everyone that joined and supported my event earlier this month. And a special thank you to the Library Jazz Band for making it a fun evening!
Thank you very much for your continued friendship and support! I am so grateful.
Sincerely,
Shelley Mayer
