I am pleased to inform you that after a long week in Albany fighting hard for our state budget, vital state services will continue without interruption, thanks to the passing of a budget extender. This measure allows us to fund the state government until April 15th, ensuring that essential services are maintained while negotiations for a comprehensive budget are ongoing. It's through persistent advocacy that we can ensure the continuation of critical programs that benefit our communities.
I remain committed to fighting tirelessly for educational funding. Our children deserve access to quality education, and I will advocate for the resources necessary to provide them with the best possible opportunities for success. Furthermore, I am dedicated to addressing funding for hospitals and nursing homes to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to high-quality healthcare. I understand the importance of limiting tax increases to ease the burden on hardworking families and promote economic stability.
In addition, promoting safety and security in our communities is paramount. I am happy to announce that crime is down 15% in the first precinct in Yonkers. By working to lower crime rates and strengthen law enforcement efforts, we can create a safer environment for all residents.
I was delighted to have my nephew, Joseph, visit me in Albany this week. It was a special opportunity for us to spend time together in the state capital, giving Joseph a firsthand glimpse into the legislative process and the work his uncle does on behalf of the community.
I was honored to attend the Peace Mobile RV groundbreaking ceremony by the Yonkers YMCA. This initiative aims to provide crisis response services to our community and citizens, offering meditation, yoga, breath-work, art, music, nutrition, and other therapeutic and healing services to anyone in need.
I met with Jacqueline Franchetti to discuss Kyra’s Law and strategies to prevent the murder of children in Westchester and New York State. Jacqueline, the mother of Kyra, after whom the law is named, shared insights and perspectives crucial to our efforts protecting our children.
Additionally, I met with youth representatives from Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic during their Albany lobby day to discuss sexual and reproductive health and educational priorities. These discussions are essential for shaping policies that promote the well-being and empowerment of our youth.
I again call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza! I urge all involved parties to engage in negotiations for a lasting peace agreement, which includes the release of all hostages and prisoners. Additionally, it is imperative that the international community promptly addresses the hunger and starvation affecting the population in Gaza. |
