Yonkers Insider: 2024 Election Desk News: Statement from Marty Dolan Democrat for US House of Representatives 16th District.

Marty Dolan Statement:

I am very proud that our efforts to retain Greenburgh, White Plains, Scarsdale, and New Rochelle intact with Westchester (and not be carved off to CD-17 or CD-14) were successful.

My congratulations to Irvington’s Westchester County Legislator David Imamura and Westchester Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins for their efforts to lead the IRC through its inaugural post-census process.

The extended Redistricting process inherently created uncertainty, especially for new candidates. It is beneficial that there are now defined Districts. We’ll be reviewing these new lines.

New York State Insider Editorial: Democrats Reject Redistricting Plan for Congress Districts from NYS Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC). Legislature will make their own Congress lines.

Democrats in New York State Legislature Reject Redistricting maps for Congressional districts from NYS Independent Redistricting Commission and will instead make their own Congress maps of District Lines.

Some questions would be how long will process last?

What about collecting signatures period on petitions for political candidates to make the ballot for the Congress elections this year?

What about primary date for Congress in NYS? Are we in for another August Primary for Congress like a few years ago?

What will the Congress Districts look like after the legislature draws up the Districts?

We will continue to keep our readers posted on New York State Insider.

New York State Insider: STATEMENT FROM NYS CONSERVATIVE PARTY.

Statement on Democrat’s Cynical Rejection of Fair and Equitable Congressional District Lines by New York State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar.

Brooklyn-NY…“An impartial court established fair and equitable congressional district lines in New York State two years ago, which every voter, regardless of political party affiliation, should want. Competitive elections are central to American democracy.

“But Governor Kathy Hochul and the Democrat-controlled New York State Legislature don’t want fair and equitable congressional races in New York. They want a cynical leg up in every contest possible, and their rejection today of the Independent Redistricting Commission lines speaks volumes about their ethics and intentions. This is politics as usual in Albany, and New Yorkers voters should be outraged.”

RE: 900 N Broadway Project.

“Many homeowners have expressed great concerns about traffic and parking issues that would be exasperated by this project. The 31 parking spaces are insufficient for 60 units where most residents may have 2 cars. In addition, concerns were expressed about major traffic congestion that would be added to Executive Blvd since it is the primary traffic egress.

In my opinion the project has good intent but is not fitting for this location since it would further strain the current infrastructure, therefore I will be VOTING NO ON THE ZONING CHANGE.”

New York State Insider: STATEMENT FROM NYS CONSERVATIVE PARTY.

NEW YORK STATE CONSERVATIVE PARTY DESIGNATES DONALD J. TRUMP AS PARTY’S PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE.

Brooklyn, NY...The New York State Conservative Party today announced that former President Donald J. Trump is its presumptive nominee for President in 2024.

The designation was made following a meeting of the Party’s executive committee on Saturday in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. President Trump has received the support of every Conservative Party county committee that has completed the nomination process, constituting 56 percent of the Party’s weighted vote to date, and the remaining county committees are expected to endorse Mr. Trump for re-election in the coming weeks.

“President Trump is the clear choice of the Conservative Party county committees, and while some counties have yet to confirm their nominee, it’s abundantly obvious that Mr. Trump will again be our candidate for President,” said State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar. “The Conservative Party is proud to support a native son for the nation’s highest office for a third straight election cycle. President Biden and his progressive colleagues have brought chaos to this state in the form of violent crime, mass illegal migration, and crippling inflation. The Conservative Party will be proudly working beside the Trump campaign from now until November in every corner of this state.”

The Conservative Party will make its nomination official at its August convention.

Yonkers Insider Editorial: Will NYS Legislature approve the maps from New York State Independent Redistricting Commission of Congress Districts in NYS or will the State legislature draw their own maps for Congressional Districts in NYS?

Recently The New York State Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) sent the State Legislature the Commission approved maps for Congressional Districts in NYS.

Now it is up to the State Legislature to approve, decline or the State Legislature can redraw the lines itself if it were to choose to do so.

This process being done is running against the clocks since Petition period to collect signatures begins on Tuesday.

The State Legislature returns to Albany on Monday. What will The State Legislature decide to do? Will there be two different petition period for candidates to collect signatures to make ballot? One for Congress and one for other offices? Also will be two different Primary days to vote too?

Yonkers Insider will keep our readers posted on what happens.

Video Credit: Ardina Seward.

The 3rd Precinct Community Council holds their monthly meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Chema center on 435 Riverdale Avenue.

Always a pretty informative meeting under the leadership of Robert Stauf and the commander of the Third Precinct Captain Michael Mulvey. Also Cathy Marshall does a great job in always being active in the 3rd Precinct Community Council.

I salute all involved in the 3rd Precinct Community Council. I hope to attend more Community Council meetings in the future.

It Was a very productive meeting as the special guest speaker was Congressman Jamaal Bowman who gave a presentation in his role as a congressman, who is about to seek reelection In this year's election.

He answered the questions from the audience on various issues. I thank Congressman Bowman for coming to this important meeting of the community Council.

Also a Candidate for Congressman Bowman's seat by the name of Marty Dolan made a presentation to the audience as well and answered questions from the audience on various issues. We applaud Marty Dolan for attending as well.

There was a moment on contention between Congressman Bowman and Candidate Bowman when Dolan asked him regarding an individual by the name of Assata Shakur.

I have put a transcript of what happened between the going back and forth between Dolan and Congressman Bowman in this posting and as always we always let our readers decide and be the final arbitrator's on issues like this moments that get contentious between people and political candidates.

Yonkers Insider: Westchester County Legislator Shanae Williams 16th District: District 16 Update: February 21, 2024.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Last week, Public Works & Transportation Committee held a public listening session regarding the Westchester Joint Waterworks land swap with the County. As a member of the committee, I think it’s important to share that while this public listening session was not mandated, it was important for us at the BOL to have this meeting to hear from residents all over Westchester, in particular those residents whose communities are directly impacted. I want to say thank you to each and every person who responded, be it in person or not – we received hundreds of correspondence from residents in favor of the land swap, including various organizations and labor unions – we had dozens who opposed the swap. Rest assured, all your comments are appreciated and your voices heard. My colleagues and I will keep you all in mind as we work together to make the best decision regarding this matter.

As you know, the month of February is the shortest of them all and as you can imagine, there are a lot of activities happening this month. I want to remind you all to please take a look at the upcoming events below, and hopefully I will see you this Friday for the Black History Month event that I am hosting along with Councilwoman Robinson and Yonkers Arts. On another note, while my office is always open and available to you, please note that I will be in Albany for my first New York State Association of Counties Legislative Conference from February 26 – 28, 2024. If there is anything you need while I am away, please do not hesitate to reach out nonetheless.

Sincerely,

Honorable Shanae V. Williams

Yonkers Insider/Westchester Insider: 2024 Election Desk: Candidate Profile: Adeel Mirza Democrat for Westchester County District Attorney.

Yonkers Insider: Candidate Profile on Adeel Mirza Democrat for Westchester County District Attorney.

This is the first run for Public Office for Adeel Mirza in this run for Westchester County District Attorney.

Adeel is running for Westchester DA because he feels that we need a District Attorney that understands the balance between public safety and equal justice for all.

Adeel strongly feels that we need a District Attorney who is compassionate at the worst times in peoples' lives.

The record of Adeel Mirza service is that he has worked in the Westchester District Attorney's office for almost two decades and prosecuted cases at its highest levels.

Adeel Mirza Bio:  Having risen to the level of Deputy and then Bureau Chief, he understands the magnitude of the work the office does and the way its everyday proceedings affect real peoples' lives - both victims and those who are put through our criminal justice system. And having led the offices in Yonkers, White Plains, and Greenburgh.

During Adeel's time as a Supervisor in the office, Adeel oversaw thousands of prosecutions each year - on all levels from misdemeanors to violent crimes like rape and homicide. He built critical relationships with the police departments in Westchester County who serve as a crucial partner for the District Attorney's office.

Since his time in the District Attorney's Office, Adeel has been in private practice handling pro bono cases for defendants in Westchester who cannot afford representation. This has given him a view from the other side of the criminal justice system that is important for any District Attorney to have.

About William:

William O. Wagstaff III is a respected attorney who has represented victims in some of the most high-profile civil rights cases in recent history.

William’s commitment to his community is equal to his commitment to justice; he serves as Special Prosecutor for Police Disciplinary Hearings, serves as Chair of the African American Men of Westchester Mentoring Committee, and is on the Board of Directors for the Legal Aid Society of Westchester.

Wagstaff’s civil rights advocacy, legal experience, and ability to effect change are earning him broad support across Westchester County for District Attorney as his campaign continues to build momentum as a frontrunner ahead of the June Democratic Primary.

Born and raised in Mount Vernon, and a lifelong Westchester resident, he is now raising two great kids with his wife Christina, who is expecting.
