This past week I sent this letter to our Albany delegates urging them to NOT pass the “Clean Slate Act”. The “Clean Slate Act” is a horrible bill that will allow some violent criminals to have their records sealed after probation is completed. Now let me state this only makes sense IF someone is convicted of a nonviolent crime but if you are convicted of a crime that put someone at risk of physical harm or worse then you should not have your record sealed.
I fought this last year twice and will continue to fight this because when someone chooses to do physical harm then they should have to live with punishment for the great of their lives just as their victims and loved one does. This law states “some assaults are sealable” but if someone pleads down from manslaughter to assault such as my brother's four murders does that mean that they also will have their records kept sealed?
I urge everyone to call and email their state elected officials and demand that they do not pass this bill. They thought “Cashless Bail” and “Raise The Age” were good bills and look how that’s working out for us with violent crimes up. We must do what is right to protect our constitutes!!
