Yonkers Insider: Lower Hudson Valley Region Leading the Way in Adding New Jobs.

Assemblyman Nader Sayegh stands by his commitment to support efforts to create an economy that works for all Yonkers residents and the lower Hudson Valley Region.

So while there is much work to be done, the New York State Department of Labor's latest report card for the year is encouraging. In the first eleven months of 2022, Westchester and neighboring Orange and Rockland Counties added 25,000 new jobs, and many were in the construction field. That makes Westchester and its adjacent counties one of the fastest growing regions in the state in job creation and placement.

Together, we're working together to ensure that our workforce is matched with the best opportunities for career advancement both in our State and across the Country.

Yonkers Insider: New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh 90th District: History Will Be Made Sunday January 1, 2023 at 12:00 P.M.

Sunday, New Year's Day, Governor Kathy Hochul, Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado, Attorney General Letitia James, and Comptroller Tom DiNapoli will be sworn in for their new terms.

Kathy Hochul is the first woman elected Governor of New York. This will be a historic event at the State Capitol that you can watch online. While the Governor will be sworn in at noon, the ceremonies will begin later that afternoon at 2:00 PM in Albany. As our State's 57th Governor, she will deliver her first Inaugural Address. Congratulations to Governor Hochul and I look forward to continuing working with her Administration on behalf of all New Yorkers when the Assembly returns to the State Capitol for its 2023 next week.

Additionally, I am pleased that earlier this year, my legislative colleagues and I passed my legislation to correct outdated Gender Language in State Laws to ensure that our State Constitution accurately reflects the election of our first female Governor.

Yonkers Insider: City of Yonkers: ***NEWS RELEASE***: YONKERS MAYOR SPANO APPLAUDS SUCCESSFUL YEAR OF HOME MEAL DELIVERY SERVICE FOR SENIORS.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: YONKERS MAYOR SPANO APPLAUDS SUCCESSFUL YEAR OF HOME MEAL DELIVERY SERVICE FOR SENIORS.

Yonkers Office for the Aging Completes More Than 71,000 Deliveries in 2022.

YONKERS, NY – December 30, 2022 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano reminds senior residents of available resources when it comes to home delivery of food for homebound seniors. In 2022, the Yonkers Office for the Aging (YOFA), using state and federal grant funds, was able to provide 71,854 meals to homebound seniors and seniors in congregate settings, an increase of 6,100 meals from 2021.

“We want our seniors to know they can come to us, if they need assistance with a hot meal or cold supper,” said Mayor Spano. “We want our seniors to have access to resources they need. We don’t want older adults to struggle with food insecurity and become unable to maintain their health. The Office for the Aging is equipped with staff that assist residents with many programs and services to keep our seniors healthy and thriving.

Kelly Chiarella, Director of the Yonkers Office for the Aging said, “Our meal delivery is more importantly a daily wellness check on our most vulnerable population. We take it very seriously when one of our clients does not answer the door or phone for their meal. Maintaining the health and safety of our clients both mental and physical is our highest priority. Too often, the engagement a senior has with the delivery person daily is their ONLY conversation. We at YOFA cherish that relationship.”

Through a case management assessment, home-delivered meals are available to homebound seniors living in Yonkers aged 60 and up.  For more information or to sign up for home-delivered meals, call 914-963-2460.

Yonkers Insider: New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh 90th District: Wishing Everyone a Happy New Year in 2023!

To everyone in the City of Yonkers and beyond, I send my best wishes for a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!

Yonkers Insider: Statement from New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh 90th District.

Friends,

Growing Climate and Environmental Concerns challenge our disaster preparedness efforts throughout the year. Whether it's Buffalo, which was buried in nearly 5 feet of snow from a once in a generation blizzard, to Yonkers where flash floods from Tropical Storm Ida inundated many parts of our city just 15 months ago. It's important that we be cognizant of these looming challenges in crafting effective and substantive policy to ensure that New Yorkers can remain safe if and when natural disasters strikes.

Elected to represent the residents of Yonkers in our State Government, I am pleased to report that two major pieces of legislation I sponsored and passed this year were included in a package of disaster preparedness bills recently signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul. The legislation I fought for Requires Utility Companies "Storm Power Outage Restoration" to Prioritize 1st Responders and Residents With Life Support Medical Devices

The legislation now signed into law, (Sayegh A.3217A/Kaplan S.931A) assures that Individuals Who Use Certain Medical Devices Have Access to Electricity during Emergencies. Legislation (Sayegh A.3318C/ Kaplan S.926C) Requires Utility/Electric Companies Restoring Services to Police Departments, Fire Departments, and Ambulance Services to Notify Local County Offices of Emergency Management within 24 Hours if the Company Cannot Restore Their Electric Power.

From cost factors, billing to blackouts, we must continue to hold utility companies accountable. These common-sense reforms passed with strong bipartisan support in both houses of the legislature and I thank my colleague, Senator Anna M. Kaplan for her support and Governor Kathy Hochul for signing the legislation into law.

The Yonkers Tribune reported on the Governor signing these bills. For additional coverage on these important bills, follow the link HERE.

#WOW... There would be 14 floors for apartments and five floors of parking with 278 parking spaces....

LETS TRY THIS THING AGAIN:
Developer For Apartments For The Old Kimball Theater Site Is Back

KIMBALL RESIDENCES: The developer (1219 Yonkers Ave., LLC) that wants to build apartments on the site of the former Kimball Theater at 1219 Yonkers Ave. in Yonkers has gone back to the city’s Planning Board with a new application since the approval under the old application expired in October.

The Kimball Theatre originally opened in 1937 and had 700 seats. It was created at a cost of more than $100,000 in a building that formerly held a shirt factory, movie studio and skating rink.

In 2004, a three-alarm fire broke out that extensively damaged the former theater and adjacent storefronts.

In 2010, there was another fire that added to the destruction.

In 2017, what remained was torn down.

Sending warm wishes for a joyful Kwanzaa!

Yonkers Insider: Statement from New York State Assemblyman Nader Sayegh 90th District.

On the final night of Hanukkah, the last candle of the menorah is lit. The lighting of the menorah serves as a reminder to those passing by of the miracle that occurred so long ago when the remaining bit of pure oil burned for eight nights. Happy Hanukkah.

Yonkers Insider: Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano: Happy Kwanzaa - Light, happiness, and peace to you in the coming year!

Dear Friends,

This day begins Kwanzaa, a week-long celebration of African American culture and heritage by families and communities around our City and nation.

Kwanzaa is a time to reflect on the seven guiding principles of the season: unity, self-determination, responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.

Habari Gani! Wishing you a blessed Kwanzaa to you and your family!
