City & State’s Education in New York Summit offered industry executives, public sector leaders and academics the opportunity to share ideas and debate over critical issues such as closing the achievement gap and special education services. This full-day event brought together the most influential leaders and thinkers in New York’s education fields. I'm thankful for the opportunity to provide the latest information on legislative progress with education stakeholders across our State.
At this event, I joined fellow panelists John Falco, Director of Educators For Student Success, Alex Zimmerman, Education Reporter from Chalkbeat New York, Erica Lynne Smith, PhD, LCSW, Director of School Mental Health Programs, Office of School Health, DOHMH/DOE School Mental Health Program, Daliz Vasquez, Principal, I.A, Mosaic Preparatory Academy, NYCDOE, Reïna Batrony, Vice President, Community-Based and Education Strategies, NY Foundling, and my Legislative Colleague Assemblyman Tom Abinanti, who is the Chair on the Committee for People with Disabilities in an extensive conversation on how we can address Behavioral, Mental Health and Workforce Development Assistance through the Education System.
Research shows that most students with disabilities can meet high standards when provided with meaningful access and participation in the general education curriculum and appropriate, high quality specially designed instruction and support services. It's important that we ensure our children have all that they need to succeed today, and put in place the resources they need to succeed tomorrow.
