I'm pleased to announce that the Saw Mill River Flooding Mitigation Project along the Saw Mill River is complete, just in time for Hurricane and Tropical Storm season.
This $3 million project funded by the State of New York and overseen by the Office of Storm Management will fortify the rivers banks to prevent flooding which has chronically afflicted homes and businesses alongside the Saw Mill River. Following the destruction from the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2021, my office played a significant role in highlighting locations which would benefit from flood mitigation and infrastructure improvements. Floods are among the costliest and deadliest natural disasters. As erratic weather events increase in severity and frequency due to climate change, it's critical that our government be proactive in our response to these events.
Flood mitigation is another component of my office's response to natural disaster events. Other aspects I have worked to address include addressing inefficiencies in storm recovery. We need to do everything we can from preventing natural disasters from happening, and when they happen we have to ensure that normalcy can resume as soon as possible. |
