TALKING POINTS: Possible Yonkers Issues To Be Raised Include, But Are Not Limited To....

1). ST PATRICK'S DAY: Yonkers will often rank in top ten or twenty national lists for St. Patrick celebrations, because its percentage of the Irish population, its parade and the many Irish food and beverage establishments

The Irish have observed St Patrick’s Day as a religious holiday for more than 1,000 years

Some believe that the first St Patrick’s Day parade was held in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1737, while others argue that the first parade took place in New York in 1762.
The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the introduction of Christianity in Ireland and celebrates the Irish heritage and culture....

Saint Patrick, who died on March 17, c. 461, allegedly described the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) by using shamrock leaves.

He was born in Roman Britain in the late fourth century and according to legend, in the fifth century, St Patrick was kidnapped and taken to Ireland when he was 16 years old as a slave.

Although he escaped, he returned in 432 ce to bring Christianity to Ireland and by the time of his death, he had already founded monasteries, churches, and schools.

He is said to have banished snakes out of Ireland.

2). HATE CRIME ATTACK: Yonkers Police Department says a 67 year old flipping woman was called an “Asian bitch" by a suspect then punched her 125 times, stomped, spit on her.

The 42 year old African American Tammel Esco, who suffers from mental health and drug addiction issues was charged with attempted murder and assault as hate crimes.

The Asian victim suffered contusions, facial bone fractures and brain bleeding.

Both victim and suspect lived in the same building but it’s unknown to us if they knew each other.

The suspect has 14 previous arrests, some of them had been felony charges, according to the Yonkers police.

He was convicted of assault in 2011, sentenced to over three years in prison.

He also pushed a woman into a window last year and was sentenced to five months of mental health and drug treatment.

There's anger, fear and frustration after a vicious alleged anti-Asian hate crime captured on camera.

After the Asian woman was attacked, the Yonkers neighbors called out drugs and mental health quality of life problems that the YPD ignores in the Ludlow neighborhood.

This iis is the ninth hate crime committed in Yonkers the last ten weeks.

Local and national politicians are calling for more anti-bias training in our schools and institutions for this mental health and drug problem.

3). ADVERTISING WORKS: Expensive Promotions For Former Governor Andrew Cuomo

A poll conducted last week by Emerson College and the Hill found that if Cuomo did run against Governor Kathy Hochul, the predicted result would be Hochul at 37%, Cuomo at 33%

If found a 7% for Tom Suozzi, and 4% for Jumanne Williams, the two other democrats running for Governor

9% were undecided.

The ads are well produced and has Cuomo saying, “I haven’t been perfect; I’ve made mistakes. But I also made a difference. I’ve never stopped fighting for New Yorkers, and I never will.”

Also at a recent event at a Brooklyn church, Cuomo said, “God isn’t finished with me yet.”

Cuomo still has $15 Million in his campaign account, after spending about $1 Million on recent TV ads.

If he ran against the current Governor he would have to challenge her in a democratic primary in June.

Petitions to get on the ballot are due on April 5.

5). ANDREA STEWART COUSINS: License fee for three downstate casinos could go for $1 Billion each

The licenses for the upcoming three downstate casinos in New York could cost $1 billion or more each, double than initially expected. The license fee was proposed by the state Senate in the one-house budget, released on Sunday.

The budget says that the New York State Gaming Commission’s siting board “shall determine a licensing fee to be paid by a licensee within thirty days after the award of the license which shall be deposited into the commercial gaming revenue fund; provided however that such licensing fee shall be no less than one billion dollars per license."

Meanwhile, the Assembly’s one-house plan doesn’t include a proposed figure for the three downstate licenses, reports Politico. The licensure terms are to be negotiated as part of the budget for the fiscal year, which starts April 1.

Additionally, the Senate proposal makes a nod to Resorts World New York in Queens and Empire City in Yonkers -which are seeking to expand into full casinos- by including language that encourages state regulators “to consider private capital investment” made previous to the effective date of the license.

In determining whether an applicant is eligible for a license, evaluation will take into account a series of factors into account.

These include realizing maximum capital investment exclusive of land acquisition and infrastructure improvements; maximizing revenues received by the state and localities; and providing the highest number of quality jobs.
