Yonkers Insider: City of Yonkers: WESTCHESTER POWER COMMUNITY ENERGY PROGRAM.

Over the last couple of weeks, there have been many questions surrounding the rollout of Sustainable Westchester's Westchester Power Community Energy Program.  At this time, I would like to give you a little information so that you may make an informed decision and clarify any concerns you may have:

1.  Sustainable Westchester, is a non-profit organization helping to accelerate the adoption of clean renewable energy through the Westchester Power program.

2.  Con Edison will continue to deliver your power, maintain lines and respond to service outages.  They are required by law to provide the same customer service to all residents regardless of enrollment in this program.

3.  There is always a default supplier,  which has been Con Edison, for decades. When you move into a new home and call to turn on the electricity, you will receive power from Con Edison so Con Edison is really an opt-out program also. So now the residents of Yonkers have a choice.

4.  Con Edison can increase their price without notice.  The current average price in the first half of January is around 12 cents.

5.  Westchester Power is a fixed rate at 8.4 cents for green energy or 7.28 cents until November 30, 2023.

6. The program does not have any opt-out fee.  If you feel that Con Edison is the right choice for you, you can opt-out at any time.

7.  You will still pay a Con Edison delivery charge like you do today.  This is not new. You always pay this on your utility supply regardless of who you receive your utility supply from.

8.  The opt-out period ends February 9, but you can opt-out at any time with not fee or penalty.

9.  Electricity rates are based on the cost of fuel and gasoline.  In 2012, the last time gas was $3.75 at the pump, your Con Edison rates were 25 cents per kilowatt.  Beware of the rising cost per kilowatt of electricity from Con Edison.

10.  Sustainable Westchester is a fixed rate where Con Edison is variable.

In 2022, you will SAVE with Sustainable Westchester.

If you threw your letter out, have no fear.  If you want to opt-out call Sustainable Westchester at 914-242-4725.  Provide them with your name and address and they will opt you out.
