The hamlet became Armonk in the mid-1800s, after the name given it by the Siwanoy Native Americans of the Wappinger Confederacy.

The Byram Hills Central School District serves North Castle, New Castle, Mount Pleasant, and a portion of Bedford. All of the schools in the district are located in Armonk.
