On Monday, January 17th, 2022, the Yonkers Police Department responded to 52 Main Street, after a 911 call of a man waiving a gun threatening people. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male subject on the third floor resulting in a police-involved shooting. When officers made initial contact with the male subject, he shouted that he had a gun, though it is believed, he did not and intended to commit suicide-by-cop. One officer fell, resulting in serious injuries to his head, back, and spine. At least three police officers discharged their weapons in the direction of the subject, striking him one time in the calf.
I would like to thank the Yonkers Police Department for their patience and professionalism. This situation appears to have been greatly deescalated from the potential risks. I would like to wish a speedy recovery to the injured officer, and hope everyone involved will receive all the help they require.
Yonkers City Councilwoman Corazon Pineda Issac 2nd District.
