Dear Friends and Neighbors, There will be an Affordable Housing Information Session on Tuesday, November 16 at The Former Lewisboro Elementary School Gym at 79 Bouton Road in South Salem from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Residents from across the County are invited to attend, as the event will help people to get concrete answers on how to access safe, affordable housing in an era when housing costs in Westchester are increasing. This event is sponsored by the Town of Lewisboro Housing Committee, and Housing Action Council and Westchester Residential Opportunities, two Westchester based, HUD-Certified not-for-profit housing counseling agencies Throughout the evening, various workshops will be held to help answer questions such as:
The first workshop of the day begins at 5:45 p.m. and is about how to tell if you are eligible for affordable housing, how the application and selection process works, and how to find out where affordable housing might be available. At 6:15, a workshop on housing discrimination will inform you about housing discrimination, and what to do if you think a landlord or other housing professional is discriminating against you. At 6:45 a workshop about buying your first home will take place, and it will cover information such as available resources for down payments and closing costs. Counselors will be available at tables all evening to answer questions about the topics mentioned above, and about whether you might qualify for: septic system repair grants; for grants to remediate lead paint; and for grants to help you if you are behind in your rent. In addition, foreclosure counselors will be able to inform you about the process of getting free help to negotiate with your bank to try to modify your mortgage if you are behind on your mortgage payments. For more information, contact Jane Lindau, Chair of the Lewisboro Housing Committee at janelindau@gmail.com, or Westchester Residential Opportunities at 914-428-4507 or the Housing Action Council 914-332-4144. Very truly yours, |
