Good morning to everyone. After watching Peekskill deteriorate rapidly in recent years I decided that I should stop complaining and be the change the city desperately needs. My entire ticket would like to regain a true sense of what it means to be a public servant. We need to serve the people of Peekskill. We need to address and attack several issues immediately and aggressively.
• I will make sure the taxes stop rising at such an alarming rate. I will find and eliminate unnecessary and illogical spending.
• I will immediately begin investigating the multiple areas of failing infrastructure. The water mains, sewer lines and road conditions will be thoroughly checked. We will then prioritize and begin addressing these widespread, serious problems.
2020 was rough on everyone but the youth were hit hard during the best years of their lives. They are the future and they need resources immediately. Peekskill has already tragically lost too many young lives to senseless violence. The Stand up for Peekskill slate will help the youth by working on an effective preventative violence plan.
• We will help them reach their highest potential. We will bring in a variety of successful people with diverse backgrounds for motivational speaking, mentoring and to help show the youth that anything is truly possible. We will provide opportunities to learn about nutrition, mental health awareness, community service and much more.
I want to be part of a team that takes great care of those essential workers who take great care of us. Peekskill’s DPW employees haven’t had a contract in 4 years. That is INEXCUSABLE. In addition the city has been sued and paid settlements to their employees. Several more lawsuits have been filed recently.
• We will investigate and eliminate the causes for the consistent lawsuits filed by our own DPW and emergency services personnel. The mistreatment of our employees is financially costly, morally wrong and it simultaneously decreases the morale of our essential workers. We will hold those accountable who are responsible for any wrong doing or mistreatment who we employ. This will save millions of tax payer dollars that’s being spent on lawyers and paying out settlements. We will then use that money productively to improve the city.
• We will sit down with both the Career Fire department and the Volunteer Fire department members to hear their perspectives, gather facts and work on a proactive solution moving forward. We are extremely grateful for the members of both.
We will improve Peekskill’s current fiscal situation. The current administration has managed to raise their own salaries while severely raising taxes. We must learn from past mistakes so that we can intelligently, carefully and responsibly spend moving forward. If we continue down the current path we are on then we will sadly watch this beautiful, historic city sink beyond repair.
• We will rid the city of eyesore properties and work hand in hand with code enforcement and the residents to clean up this city and keep it clean.
• City Hall will be extremely transparent. Our house is your house. We will make sure the input of the residents is heard and addressed. We will be honest and responsive.
A change in the administration is needed when violent crime and taxes simultaneously rise. I am not running for Mayor for the salary or for my ego but rather to help save our city from its downward spiral. Lets stand up for Peekskill on Election Day.
Emiliano Perez for Mayor
