The New York Emergency Rental Assistance Program offers direct payments to landlords for eligible renters who owe back rent. It can also provide help with gas utility payments for those who qualify because of COVID-19-related financial impacts.
- You may be eligible for up to 12 months of rental arrears payments for rents accrued on or after 3/13/2020.
- You may be eligible for up to 12 months of electric or gas utility arrears payments for arrears that have accrued on or after 3/13/2020.
- You may be eligible for up to 3 months of additional rental assistance if your household is expected to spend 30% or more of your gross monthly income to pay for rent.
If you are a Westchester resident outside of Yonkers, there are 13 nonprofits who can help you apply for the rent relief you need. Yonkers is administering the program for city residents, with four nonprofits at the ready.
