On Saturday, July 10, I stood with Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and US Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, my colleagues in government and the women from @stsiinternational as Senator Chuck Schumer announced a $500,000 grant to St. John's Riverside Hospital. This hospital is where my wife gave birth to our three boys. St. John's is the only birthing hospital in the city of Yonkers, the fourth largest city in the state of New York.
Black moms are 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes and over twice as likely to have birth complications.
Senator Schumer announced the Black Maternal Health Mommibus Act and his goal of adding new maternal benefits to Medicaid to improve the outcomes for moms.
Thank you Senator Schumer for your commitment to improve the health of the people of the state of New York and the United States.
