Electric Vehicles on the Market

EVs have many advantages over gasoline-powered cars including better fuel economy, lower maintenance costs, zero emissions, and less pollution. Thinking of going electric? Check out our fact sheet on buying EVs, part of our Plug It In, NY campaign. 

Support grows for building the Gateway Tunnel 

The Gateway Tunnel project, which would fix rail infrastructure under the Hudson River, is making headway in the U.S. Department of Transportation and gaining support from Secretary Buttigieg. NYLCV supports the project because it would improve mass transit and reduce pollution. 

U.S. Energy Secretary Granholm, NYLCV staff, and other partners joined a ribbon-cutting for Revel's new electric vehicle fast-charging depot that will encourage the growth of EVs while building a clean energy economy. Just as the Biden Administration is prioritizing electrification as part of its climate recovery, New York is accelerating its shift to EVs with infrastructure like this. (Brooklyn Eagle)

The New York City Council and Mayor de Blasio reached an agreement on the budget that includes several of our priorities that will keep our parks safe, clean, and accessible, reduce waste, and promote clean transportation. The budget restored some funding for greenspaces and the Parks Equity Initiative, restarted organic waste collection, and added support for commercial waste zones. (Press Release)

A new audit from the NYC Comptroller's Office found delays in the lead remediation process for public school drinking water. This should be a teachable moment to speed up the process for fixing water fixtures. (WNYC/Gothamist)
