Here’s what we’re reading this week:

NYLCV Approved Candidates Win, Other Primary Election Results Still Pending

While final results in New York City are still pending, we're excited to share that our endorsed candidate for Albany Mayor, Kathy Sheehan, and East Hampton Supervisor, Peter Van Scoyoc, won their primaries!

Help Volunteer to CleanUp NYC Parks!

Parks will play an invaluable role in restoring New York to its pre-pandemic charisma and well-being, while also serving their important environmental functions--as urban canopies, air quality filters, stormwater collectors, carbon sinks, and habitats for native wildlife. You can help keep parks clean by signing up to volunteer.

The White House and Congress reached an agreement on a $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package in line with the priorities of President Biden's Build Back Better agenda. It includes funding for clean transportation, clean water, renewable energy, and resiliency. NYLCV is part of a national coalition of conservation voter leagues advocating for infrastructure funding that cleans up pollution, addresses climate change and environmental justice, and creates green union jobs. New York City is installing its 100 first curbside electric vehicle charging stations by October and changing overnight will be 60% cheaper than buying gasoline. This is part of a pilot program that will encourage more New Yorkers to go electric. It shows that EVs are the right choice for the environment, convenience, and our pocketbook. (Press Release)

The State Office of Renewable Energy Siting issued permits for its first two major renewable energy facilities - a 36-megawatt solar electric facility in the Town of Riverhead, Suffolk County and a 177-megawatt solar electric facility coupled with 83-megawatt battery energy storage in the Town of Mount Morris, Livingston County. The projects will help us transition away from fossil fuels, reduce climate pollution, improve air quality, and create green jobs. (Orleans Hub)
