Mothers are our first teachers. They give birth to us, then guide us with love and fortitude through the journey from infancy to adulthood. As a mother, I know firsthand the joy and sacrifice inherent in parenting, and I am thankful for the vision and virtue of my own mother and the patience I gained from raising a child.
Motherhood isn’t limited to those who give birth. There are many ways to nurture children and communities, and many ways to build neighborhoods and nations. I wish all of the mothers, all of the compassionate and courageous women who are the backbone of our country, a Happy Mother’s day.
I hope that you spend time honoring your matriarchs and celebrating with your loved ones. I hope that you have moments of reflection and self-care, and remember that mothers have the power to uplift, protect and transform.
