Bike, Jog, walk on a 13.1 mile loop of the Bronx River Parkway from Yonkers to White Plains - In 1974 I served as a member of former County Executive Al Del Bello's Bike Committee. I was the chair of the Task Force for Bikeways in Westchester (I was in High School) which successfully lobbied the Board of Legislators to appropriate $50,000 for the first bikeway in Westchester along the parkway in 1973. I suggested to the committee that the county close the Bronx River Parkway for cyclists which the County Executive agreed to do. For over 40 years Bicycle Sundays have been an important and enjoyable activity in Westchester. Thousands of cyclists, runners and walkers have enjoyed the experience every year.
I am pleased that Bicycle Sundays, 2021 will resume tomorrow May 2nd. The parkway is open exclusively for cyclists,in line skaters, scooters, walkers and joggers. The course begins at Main Street in White Plains and continues south to Scarsdale Road in Yonkers. You can also enjoy the path to Kensico Dam from White Plains and from Tuckahoe to Bronxville --getting some extra miles in.
