Here’s what we’re reading this week:
State Senate and Assembly Release One-House Budgets
The State Senate and Assembly each released their one-house budgets last week and included investments in several of our environmental priorities such as a $3 billion Environmental Bond Act and an expansion of the Environmental Protection Fund.
Our recent webinar focused on how extended producer responsibility legislation for packaging, one of our top priorities, can help achieve waste reduction goals. Waste is New York’s fourth largest contributor to climate change.
A new bicycle and pedestrian path along the West Side Highway will connect a trail between the Pier 97 waterfront greenspace and Riverside Park using a State grant. Expanding access to bike and pedestrian paths encourages New Yorkers to stop driving, which helps relieve congestion and improve air quality. (amNY)

The NYS Public Service Commission approved the cable landing for the state's first offshore wind project, the South Fork Wind Farm, which NYLCV is advocating to advance. This step forward will encourage the growth of renewable energy, establish New York as a hub for this emerging industry, and position Long Island as a hub for family-sustaining green jobs.
