Yonkers Insider: Yonkers City Hall Beat: Statement from Yonkers City Council Majority Leader Corazon Pineda Issac 2nd District: (Covid Vaccination) and City Council legislative summary.

 


REMINDER: We have a new COVID-19 Vaccination site coming to Yonkers on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Beginning tomorrow, February 24, 2021, residents who live in zip codes 10701, 10703, 10704 and 10705 can pre-register online for the COVID-19 vaccine that will be distributed on the aforementioned date at the Yonkers National Guard Recruiting Center, located at 2 Quincy Place, Yonkers, NY 10701. Please visit this link as early as possible to pre-register. After March 3, 2021, the registration will be open to everyone in Westchester County.

In today's news, the Yonkers City Council held two meetings this week: a Budget & Finance Committee Meeting and a City Council Stated Meeting, held on Monday, February 22, 2021 and February 23, 2021, respectively. All items on both agendas appear below, as well as the decisions taken by the City Council.

City Council Stated Business (2/23/2021):

Old Business:
1. Local Law - Authorizing the discontinuance and conveyance of a portion of Bronxville Road to Kevin and Joan Donohue (Held - Public Hearing to be scheduled for March 9th, at which time it will come for a vote)

2. Resolution - To issue a determination of significance pursuant to SEQRA relating to the proposed conveyance of a portion of discontinued right-of-way of Bronxville Road (Held - Public Hearing to be scheduled for March 9th, at which time it will come for a vote)


New Business:
3. General Ordinance - Amending Part VII of the Code of the City of Yonkers by adding a new Chapter 88 entitled "Tenant-Landlord Relations Council" (Adopted 7-0)

4. Special Ordinance - Authorizing an encroachment in the right-of-way on Lefferts Road (Adopted 7-0)

5. Resolution - Settlement ($90,000) Shane Bladel vs. Hudson View Associated LLC (Adopted 7-0)

6. Resolution - Calling on the trustees of the Yonkers Board of Education to adopt an Expanded Caregivers Bill of Rights & Responsibilities (Adopted 5-2, with Minority Leader Breen and Councilmember Merante voting no)

7. Resolution - Proclaiming that the Yonkers City School Board should contract student transportation to a bus company that uses electric buses (Adopted 6-1, with Councilmember Merante voting no)

8. Resolution - To create a framework or program to allow personal protective equipment (PPE) to be donated (Adopted 7-0)

9. Resolution - Calling on the City of Yonkers to encourage the participation of certified service-disabled veteran-owned businesses in city contracts (Adopted 7-0)

10. Resolution - Urging the Yonkers Industrial Development Agency to conduct a feasibility study regarding the construction of a Marina on the Yonkers Waterfront in the Downtown Section (Adopted 7-0)

11. Resolution - For the Yonkers Planning Department to issue an RFP for a consultant to study the feasibility, cost and design of implanting a ferry service for the City of Yonkers Marina on the Hudson (Adopted 7-0)

12. Resolution - In support of the Senate Bill to provide for the long-term improvement of public school facilities, and for other purposes (Adopted 7-0)

13. Resolution - Urging New York State and Westchester County to open a COVID-19 Vaccination site in the City of Yonkers (Adopted 7-0)

14. Resolution - Urging the Federal Government to provide student debt relief (Adopted 7-0)

15. Resolution - To adopt as complete a Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement ("DGEIS") pursuant to the SEQRA for adoption of a master plan amending Chapter 43 of the Code of the City of Yonkers known as Zoning Ordinance for the Gingsberg Development Company Proposal in regard to proposed actions affecting the Ludlow Street Corridor Study area (Item failed - 3 Yes votes (Majority Leader Pineda-Isaac, Minority Leader Breen, and Councilmember Rubbo); 2 No votes (Council President Khader and Councilmember Merante); 2 Abstentions (Councilmember Diaz and Councilmember Williams)

16. Resolution - Commissioner of Deeds (Adopted 7-0)


Budget & Finance Committee Meeting:
1. A Resolution of the City Council of Yonkers establishing participatory budgeting (Kept in Budget Committee for further discussion)

2. A Resolution of the City Council of Yonkers calling on the City of Yonkers to provide all city employees with paid time off to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine (Moved to Rules Committee)
