I hope you all have had an amazing week and are continuing to prioritize safety and health during this pandemic. Over the past few weeks, I have received many inquiries in regards to the COVID-19 Vaccine and how one could receive it at this early stage in its distribution. I will highlight that information below:
More than 17,475 vaccine doses were allocated across Hudson Valley hospitals, with 16,500 being the Moderna vaccine. Only 975 doses were the Pfizer vaccine and those were all sent to Northern Westchester Hospital. Both vaccines require two doses for maximum protection.
The state has an allocation system where eligible populations are served by different providers: - Health care workers: Local hospitals.
- Essential workers, including police, fire, teachers, public safety personnel: Local departments of health.
- People age 65 and over: Retail sites, including pharmacies, and state-run mass vaccination sites including the Westchester County Center.
Those seeking a vaccine need to make an appointment and contact the provider directly to book it. Sites must have the vaccine on hand in order to make appointments. Some providers might have already booked up their appointments for this week and some are working off a waiting list.
Various pharmacies also offer the vaccine. |
