NYLCV Testifies at Joint State Budget Hearing
At a budget hearing, our Policy Director Patrick McClellan called for more investment in environmental programs and advocated for policies that will reduce emissions like a clean fuel standard.
The NYC Council Committee on Environmental Protection recently held a hearing to discuss air quality and three bills that seek to improve it. Our NYC Program Director Carlos Castell Croke testified in support of the bills.
The East Hampton Town Board and Town Trustees approved what will be the first offshore wind farm in New York State, which NYLCV supports. Its 15 turbines will produce enough energy to power 70,000 homes each year. (East Hampton Star)
The Natural Resources Defense Council, an NYLCV partner, filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency to challenge its revision to the Lead and Copper Rule because it includes inadequate testing at schools and childcare centers. (NRDC)
As part of the NYC Fleets of the Future initiative, New York City installed 58 fast electric vehicle charging stations to power its fleet of electric vehicles. (Staten Island Advance)
A bill introduced by Senator Kaminsky and Assemblyman Englebright to implement extended producer responsibility for packaging would increase funding for recycling programs, upgrade trash sorting technology, incentivize brands to use sustainable packaging, and create green jobs.This policy is an NYLCV priority because it will help us move towards achieving zero waste (New York Times)
