Greenburgh Insider: Election 2021 Desk: From Tasha Young Democrat running for Greenburgh Town Supervisor: Elections 2021.

Service

History of Service to the Community of Greenburgh and Westchester.

Tasha D. Young, MSW has dedicated her entire life to public service and community building. She has given two decades of her life to working for the Town of Greenburgh. In her faith based capacity, Tasha served as a volunteer in service delivery from the late nineties until recently.

Theodore D. Young Community Center-Program Manager (Fairview, NY)

● Served as Woman and Girls Program Manager creating innovative programs for girls.
● Revamped Falcons Cheerleading Squad into a competitive cheerleader squad, and introduced tumbling with state certified gymnastic instructors.  Greenburgh had never before had a competitive cheerleading program until Tasha created it.
● Introduced competitive double dutch teams to the girls in Greenburgh, two divisions young jumpers ages 9-12, and teens ages 13-18. The teams entered competitions in NYC.
● Created 'Personal Touch' to address hygiene and self esteem for girls attending the Community Center's open gym and basketball programs.
The program was modeled after her years at the Martin Luther King Young Adults Club under James and Yolanda Robinson, Joseph Lucky Ferrabee, and Phyllis Young. Tasha taught these young ladies both tangible and intangible modes of conduct, grace, skill, and internal fortitude of what it is to be an excellent and well rounded individual. The girls learned conflict resolution, journaling, cooking, fashion expression, hair and make up application, participated in fashion shows, and cooking at the Center and abroad.

Today's students Tomorrow's Teachers- Program Manager (Elmsford, NY)

She furthered the scope and reach of the TSTT Program. She recruited high school students from Greenburgh Central 7, Elmsford, and other school districts to interest them in the profession of teaching. She mentored young individuals through graduation and the college application processes. She also followed them through their years into undergrad and further educational avenues. Lastly, she guided them through graduation and back into their home district to teach.

Tasha has mentored hundreds of young people, holding their hand the entire way. Tasha has traveled to Rochester, NY with Dr. Perkins to facilitate this program successfully in several school districts up there. This was her first entree into negotiating contracts with Superintendents and College Presidents alongside Dr. Perkins. Tasha created a program manual for the programs and also managed a contract implementation for Today's Students Tomorrow's Leaders. During this journey, she has developed programs for vocational bound young people and special needs learners. This also includes chronically detained or behaviorally challenged teens as well.

Abbott House (Irvington, NY)

As an Executive Director to Program Director Susan McPherson, she managed stipend payments and tracking of 150 teenagers in the Preparing Youth for Adulthood Program. She also managed staff as a 'gatekeeper' to the Director.
Tasha was the first point of contact for social workers and programs counselors. She was promoted to the homefinding department as a home
finding specialist. From there, she developed an extensive spreadsheet to manage 350 NYC foster parent payments. The spreadsheet also contained hours certifying their home for training compliance and payment. Seventy-five Westchester County foster parents now have the same provision, but different requirements as outlined by the State and County.

North American Family Institute- Homefinding Specialist (Elmsford, NY)

Tash recruited and selected qualified foster parents who were paid the highest stipend in the State to house the most traumatized youth. Tasha recruited, trained, and maintained annual training records for 60 of the most dedicated and specialized foster parents. These parents are Crisis Management Specialists. Tasha provided training, support and on call expertise in such areas of juvenile sex abuse, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, fire setting, self harm, depression, PTSD and the like. From there she was promoted to Medicaid Managed Care Director- her first entry into policy roll out and compliance for the agency.
