2021 ELECTIONS: Three Yonkers City Council seats up in the 2nd, 4th and 6th Districts, and Council President Mike Khader is also up for citywide vote. YONKERS: The Democratic And Republican nominating conventions are happening at the end of January and signatures to get on the ballot must be collected before spring arrives. The primaries is on June 23rd. Some wonder if there will be an opponent step forward to challenge Council President Mike Khader, as his supporters fear that he might be taking his re-election for granted and that he is not even bothering to ask residents for their support and votes. However, if #MikeKhader campaigns like he has an opponent a gets the highest vote count in #Yonkers, then he will be closer to his dream of running for Mayor in 2023. New Yonkers Republican Chairman John Larkin is said to be working on a challenger to Mike Khader, because it is felt that a great many voters in the city of hills are not pleased with the leadership provided by the council chair. Others are shocked that there wont a contested election for council president in Yonkers, this has not happened in decades. But, Mike Khader feels there will not be an opponent, because he says that he has kept his campaign promises and reduced water rates. Republican Councilman Anthony Merante will face off against former Yonkers Police Department Deputy Chief Tim Hodges, a democrat, in the 6th District. Fourth District Council District Councilman John Rubbo will be running for re-election for the first time, and for the first time as a democrat, since changing parties, but like Mike Khader there has not been anyone stepping forward to challenge him. But there is an unfounded rumor that Republican Mario De Giorgio, who ran in 2019 against Mayor Mike Spano might challenge John Rubbo, because fourth district GOP voters are still angry about the party switch. Councilman John Rubbo is very proud of the development that he has supported bring to the city of hills. Like City Council President Mike Khader it appears that City Council Majority Leader Corazon Pineda-Isaac has no challenger coming forward at this time. The big election news this year is that Councilwoman Shanae Williams is challenging County Clerk Tim Idoni in the democratic primary. Legislators Christopher Johnson, Jose Alvarado, David Tubiolo and Ruth Walter are all up for re-election. Legislator David Tubiolo switched parties last year to become a democrat and so far has no opposition - as the democratic party currently hold a 16-1 Super, Super Majority on the County Board, as well as, Democratic County Executive George Latimer. It was said that the Republican Party was pressuring Council Minority Leader Mike Breen to run against Legislator Ruth Walter, who narrowly defeated republican Gordon Burrows in 2019, but those close to #MikeBreen say he is not going to mount a challenge. However, Community activist James Nolan say he is going to challenge legislator Ruth Walter. There is also talk that Community Activist London Reyes, might take on Jose Alvarado. This is a seat that #LondonReyes has sought in the past https://www.facebook.com/groups/YonkersNewswire/permalink/2868327240091502/
