Hello everyone,
We are less than two weeks away from the start of the new school year and many of us are still apprehensive about returning our students to school, in-person, during this unprecedented time.
On August 20th, 2020, the Yonkers Board of Education held a special meeting to discuss the school reopening plan. The Board of Education Trustees adopted a resolution that all Yonkers Public Schools students will begin the school year using Online Remote Instruction. Students will remain at home through the month of September and teachers will provide online remote instruction from the school buildings.
Instruction will begin for students as follows:
- Tuesday, September 8 - Kindergarten through grade twelve (12) students begin instruction remotely,
- Wednesday, September 9, Prekindergarten students will participate in a half-day orientation remotely,
- Thursday, September 10, Prekindergarten students begin instruction remotely.
On Monday, October 5, all district students will transition to a Hybrid Instruction model, in which all students will be assigned to specific groups and receive instruction in-person at school sites on designated days of the week and remotely, from home, on the other days of the week. Parents/guardians will still have the option to continue their child’s education using only the Online Remote Instruction model. Additional details will be sent to parents/guardians.

In other news, earlier this week I had a successful hot meal distribution for the community and I plan on doing another one next Tuesday, on August 25, 2020. Mayor Mike Spano, Gullotta House, Pads 2 Home Realty, Nationwide and I will be hosting a free hot meal distribution on Tuesday, August 25th at 4PM at the Oak Street Community Garden (128 Oak Street). The meals will be provided by some of Yonkers local restaurants including Silvio's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, La Pinata Cafe and Grill and Caridad & Louie's Restaurant. Be sure to wear your face coverings and social distance. Hope to see you there!
