Tropical Storm Isaias.
Tropical Storm Isaias has traveled along the Eastern Coastline from the Bahamas and is expected to touchdown in the Westchester County area around 12 noon on Tuesday, August 4th. Tropical Storm Watches/Warnings, Flash Flood Watch, and a Coastal Flood Watch are in effect for the area.
Isaias has waivered in its wind speed for the past few days high as 75mph and as low as 60 mph, as it traveled from the Bahamas to Florida and through the Carolinas. The travel speed of the storm had reached speeds of 13mph and as low as 9mph, giving the long duration of its presence. We can feel the early effects of Isaias as early as Monday night and early Tuesday morning, but the eye of the storm will not appear until around 12 noon on Tuesday lasting until around 8pm.
The Westchester County area is looking to get about 3” – 6” of rain which will cause flash flooding to arise in areas with poor sewer drainage, rivers, streams and low ground level. The heavy down pour of rain will cause dangerous road conditions, so residents are urged to stay indoors. Also, heavy winds will reach 60 – 75 mph, causing debris and lightweight outdoor furniture and equipment can become a risk to people and property.
Heavy winds will also likely cause downed tree limbs and downed power lines throughout the city. Those tree limbs can cause further hazards if they fall and damage property or people as well.
