Yonkers Insider: Town of Greenburgh: July 1st - A Message from Your Town Council.

July 1, 2020

Dear Town of Greenburgh Residents,

This week, we bring announcements about Independence Day, Pools, and a recap of Events and Reminders.

Independence Day - July 4:  Happy Independence Day!  We are wishing everyone an enjoyable and safe holiday.  While the Town will not have a traditional celebration, Macy’s will have a display of fireworks on several unspecified nights this week, through the holiday.  The fireworks spectacular will air on July 4, on NBC (8-10 p.m. ET)

Pools:  We will open the Anthony F. Veteran Park pool on July 6.  Unfortunately, the pool will not operate in the same manner as previous summers. Here is what to expect:
  • Limited access (up to 300 patrons per session)
  • No guests are allowed
  • Two 4-hour swim sessions
  • A reservation is required to enter the complex
  • Reservations must be made online the day before attending
  • Limited access to the public restrooms
More information to come on the opening of the Dobbs Ferry and Hastings-on-Hudson pools.

Police Reform: In light of the recent police-related deaths of George Floyd and other African Americans, Governor Cuomo signed into law The New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative and Say Their Name Agenda. Greenburgh will conduct a thorough review of Town policies and actions to ensure compliance with the Governor's police reform legislation, and to eradicate racial discrimination that may exist here.

Recap of Events…
Juneteenth- June 19: In celebrating Independence Day, we would be remiss if we did not recognize Juneteenth, an American holiday commemorating the end of slavery. To learn more about the history of Juneteenth, please visit: What is Juneteenth?

Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued an Executive Order recognizing Juneteenth. This holiday is celebrated each year on June 19. Greenburgh celebrated with a motorcade through Hartsdale to the Town Hall. In Ardsley, students Fiker Zewdie, Maya Levine and Juliet Wishner led an amazing presentation recognizing the importance of Juneteenth and Black Live Matters.  Congressman Eliot Engle, Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Westchester County Executive George Latimer were among the guest speakers.
