Westchester County is well into a program of contact tracing. Contact tracing allows the county health officials, based on current and new COVID-19 positive tests, to identify people who have been exposed to others that are contagious at the time of interaction.
Based on the information gleaned, individuals who need to quarantine are identified and directed to isolate themselves and get tested. This provides the county the ability to identify and separate people who might infect others -- with a goal of getting to them before they actually become infectious.
And although the positive case number will go up, albeit briefly, this allows us to work to drive the infection rate down.
Doing this work is an amazing collaboration of Westchester's Health, Social Services and Community Mental Health Departments -- identifying, housing and testing those who are identified.
In the past week, i have written and arranged the serving of more than 30 isolation and quarantine orders, and others in the county are doing this as well.
This is another step toward getting ahead of the virus.
And i just wanted you all to know that there are people working day, night and weekends, to try to defeat this virus.
