Jen Williams is a first-generation New Yorker. Her father, born in Germany and raised in White Plains, was a small business owner in Tarrytown. Her mother, born in Austria, came to New York in her 20s and taught German in Dutchess County schools. Jen graduated from Binghamton University in 1994 with a major in Political Science. She then moved to New York City to work on Wall Street for 10 years.
In 2004, Jen left the financial services industry and moved to Irvington where she lives with her family today. That was also the year she first registered as a democrat, and she has been voting blue ever since. She and her sister worked for the family's women-owned energy consulting business. Having worked on sustainability and energy efficiency projects, she has a deep appreciation for clean energy initiatives as growth opportunities for business owners, entrepreneurs and households.
Community and outreach has always been important to Jen. She founded the “Women of the Congo” charity, bringing together like-minded women in New York City, Westchester and Long Island to end systematic violence against women in Africa. Jen’s effort was described in Oprah Magazine as:
“You can read about something unimaginably vicious—say, the rape epidemic in the Congo. You can feel horrified, helpless. Or, like Jennifer Williams, you can leverage your emotions, time, and talent, gather your friends...and surprise even yourself with how much good a determined group of women can do. “
This effort raised money for Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Mukwege, V-Day, and United Nations humanitarian aid organizations. Jen also served on the Irvington Educational Foundation as a board member for 4 years.
