Statement from Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.

Friends, 

This week, we honored a distinct group of individuals from our great city – our Veterans.

On Veterans Day, I thought about the very basic rights and freedoms that would not be a part of our lives were it not for our Yonkers Veterans. It’s because of our Veterans that we can speak freely, without fear for our lives.

Because of our Veterans we can practice whatever religion we choose, love whoever we want to and send our children to schools that we choose. All of these rights and freedoms that we cherish and maybe even take for granted sometimes, are what make America the greatest country to live in.

But we still say thank them —for their service, bravery, and sacrifice. But most of all we say thank you for the rights and freedoms that have made our lives better and made the United States of America better.

I hope you had the chance to thank a veteran this week!
