Statement from Mario De Giorgio Republican Party Candidate for Yonkers Mayor.

Bullying & Suicide- Yonkers Public Schools:

It’s a new day and a new week for our children at the Yonkers Public schools. We have to recognize the bullying issue we have and the suicide incidents that occurred in our schools.

I have talked to so many parents and it breaks my heart when I hear about the bullying that goes on in our schools.

Every student deserves the chance to learn without having to worry about or be afraid of anything. Schools are the place where students find peace, learn, have fun, and socialize with others.

It’s also heart breaking to learn and hear about the suicide incidents we had. Innocent kids take away their own lives because they either can’t deal with life or don’t understand life.

Our Children need direction and guidance. With the millions of dollars pouring into our schools, we should be able to afford more counselors and more programs for our children.

We can’t resolve a problem until we recognize we have one. We can’t push everything under the rug and pretend everything is good. Our children need to be guided each and every step.

While I want to avoid mentioning Spano’s lack of care and interest on this issue, I do want to point out that it’s a problem that should have been recognized and dealt with.

If elected by the people of Yonkers, I want to make sure each school has enough counselors and children are in a comfortable environment to learn. I want to visit every school regularly.

These are our kids and our futures. We can’t afford to lose any of them.
