Dear Friends,
As I sit back and reflect on this past week, as well as the upcoming weekend, I can only think of one word....family.
It's astonishing how fast time flies by. The old saying, 'the days are long but the years are fast is absolutely true!
It was my oldest son Michael's birthday this week. It's hard to believe that 20 years has gone by so quickly. It was also my wife Mary's birthday! She is on a non-stop schedule between her incredible broadcasting career, along with being the First Lady of Yonkers --- however she still manages to be the glue that holds our family together as an amazing Mom.
Speaking of Moms, my mother proudly and emotionally received an American flag from Congressman Elliot Engel this week in honor of Flag Day, and in remembrance of my Dad's service in the military.
As Father's Day approaches, now more than ever, my thoughts are surrounded by how lucky I am for my family, my friends and those who truly care about me.
Here's to a weekend of not sweating the small stuff and appreciating all that we have.

Flag Day in the City of Yonkers
|
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's City Hall Flag Day Ceremony.
The idea for Flag Day began in 1885 when a school teacher in Wisconsin threw a 'Flag Birthday' with his students. As a result, schools across America began to celebrate the stars and stripes in their classrooms.
Finally in 1916, Flag Day was officially established by proclamation when President Woodrow Wilson asked us to "stand with united hearts for an America which no man can corrupt, no influence draw away from its ideals, no force divide against itself."
Here in Yonkers, our flag flies over City Hall and over 100 locations throughout the City, serving as a constant reminder of the sacrifices made, the beliefs held and the freedom maintained in America.
There was also a special United States Flags Presentation to the families of Yonkers Veterans who have recently passed away. Thank you to Congressman Elliot Engel, who gifted flags that flew over our nation's capitol.

Mayor Mike Spano gathered with Councilwoman Shanae V. Williams, Councilman Michael Sabatino, Councilman Mike Breen, and representatives from the U.S. Census Bureau to raise awareness of the importance of completing the U.S Census Survey. Residents are encouraged to participate in the census to ensure Yonkers gets the necessary funding to address the needs of our very diverse community. The Yonkers 2020 Complete Count Committee is in full motion for the #YonkersCounts campaign to assist residents with completing the survey. Census-related job opportunities are also available. DID YOU KNOW.... that Westchester Hills School 29 was the site of an Army Camp in 1776? In fact, Army Troops camped on the school's grounds prior to the Battle of White Plains on October 28, 1776 with George Washington.
It was a special week at Westchester Hills School 29 as the Westchester County Historical Society placed an official historical marker on the school's property.
For you history buffs out there, Westchester Hills School 29 will forever be a part of American Revolutionary War history!
