Message From Mike
Dear Neighbor,

Although we have yet to adopt the FY2019-20 Budget, let me assure you that things are trending in the right direction. While we have yet to vote on a budget, let me assure you that things are trending in the right direction.

As I’ve said before, some of the most important responsibilities of the City Council is for government oversight and voting on the budget. That’s why it’s essential that we take the time to do things right and make sure that Yonkers residents are getting their money’s worth and making sure that, at the end of the day there is accountability to the taxpayers.

There are still several issues in the budget that need to be addressed and some things that I believe can’t be compromised. I will continue to make this process as open and transparent as possible, while continuing to do everything in my power to improve the quality of life for our residents and taxpayers.

I would like to thank all the stakeholders in this process including the Mayor, my fellow Council Members, Department Heads, and more for keeping all options on the table as we work towards a balanced budget.

I thank you for your patience and for the trust you have placed in your local elected leaders.

As always, feel free to reach out to my office with any suggestions or concerns about how we can help to improve the quality of life of those who call Yonkers home. My office can be reached at 914-377-6060 or by sending us an email at councilpresident@yonkersny.gov

Mike's Week in Pictures
Portuguese Flag Raising at City Hall
Viva Portugal! Last weekend I joined Mayor Mike Spano, Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, and others to raise the Portuguese Flag at City Hall. Thanks to all who came out to support the Yonkers Portuguese community in celebrating another one of the rich cultures that help make up the fabric of our community.

Yonkers 2nd Annual Pride Fest
Yonkers' 2nd Annual Pride Fest was a tremendous success! Thousands of people came out to support the LGBT+ community and enjoy the great atmosphere. There was fun to be had for all who attended and I'm already looking forward to next's festival! Thanks to all of our event organizers, vendors, staff, and attendees for coming together to show some serious PRIDE!

Juneteenth Parade
I had a great time at the Annual Juneteenth Parade and Festival last weekend! I joined NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Councilwoman Shanae Williams, and other comunity members for great display of unity in celebrating African heritage. Congratulations to the Yonkers African American Heritage Committee for another great Juneteenth weekend in Yonkers!
Honoring our local veterans
This week we honored some local veterans for their service and contributions to Yonkers. We held a reception prior to the Council Meeting where we heard from them about their service and what it's like being a veteran in Yonkers. Special thanks all of our veterans and Director of Veterans Services Lou Navcfor helping organize this event.
HRCA 2nd Annual Community BBQ
It was a beautiful evening at the Hudson River Community Association's 2nd Annual Community BBQ. Fondly known as HRCA to locals, this amazing organization helped bring together a thriving community, delicious food, and some great Jazz for a perfect evening. I'm already looking forward to next year's BBQ! Thanks to everyone who helped put together this great evening.
Flag Day 2019
Today we celebrated the anniversary of the adoption of the United States Flag as the official Flag of our great nation. Thank you to Mayor Spano, the Department of Veterans Services, and everyone else who There's nothing more inspiring than seeing the star spangled banner flying in the wind on a day like today. God Bless everyone and God Bless America!

Upcoming Road Repairs: Central Avenue
Now that the weather has warmed up, the New York State Department of Transportation will be undertaking various projects throughout Yonkers over the next few months - including a complete resurfacing of a part of Central Avenue. This will be a major project - that means significant dust, dirt, and noise. Unfortunately, work must occur at night, otherwise Central Avenue would be effectively shut down. We've provided some useful information which may be helpful in planning ahead to minimize disruptions.
  • Central Ave. from the I-87 interchange up to around Stoke Rd. will be completely resurfaced to help address the chronic potholes problem.
  • Resurfacing will take place over the course of two weeks from 9PM-6AM Monday through Thursday
  • There will be NO PARKING in various sections of Central Avenue during this project's duration.. Check for signs to avoid getting towed!
  • A number of ADA-accessible (wheelchair) ramps will also be replaced on this same Central Ave corridor throughout this month into early July.
