May 31, 2019
Dear Friends,
June is upon us, which means its Pride Month in International Pride Month is meant to celebrate and commemorate the lives and contributions of those from LGBT+ communities. Pride Month is celebrated in June because in June 1969, numerous lesbian, gay, and transgender activists protested for their right to live a life the same as other Americans at the Stonewall Inn in Manhattan, NY. The "Stonewall Riots" were so impactful on American culture that President Bill Clinton officially declared June "Gay & Lesbian Pride Month" on June 2, 2000; and this June we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
The Yonkers LGBT Flag Raising will be on June 6th at 4:30PM, and I encourage all Yonkers residents and friends to come support the LGBT+ community of Yonkers next Thursday.
Best Wishes,
Khush Kam-Au
Majority Leader Michael Sabatino
