News from Yonkers City Councilman Republican, John Rubbo, 4th District.

Earth Day Continues! 🌍
BUDGET HEARING SCHEDULE
Mayor Mike Spano has presented the budget to the City Council. We will now hold budget hearings to hear from the City's Departments on how the proposed funding will affect their operations.  Please note that there are two Public Hearings where the public can give their input on the budget.
9-11-01 VICTIMS COMPENSATION FUND
I was proud to co-sponsor legislation calling for the extension of the 9-11-01 Victims Compensation Fund which is set to expire in the year 2020.  The City Council voted unanimously to pass this important resolution.  This fund was established to provide compensation for any individual who suffered physical harm or was killed as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 or the debris removal efforts that took place in the aftermath of those attacks.

26 residents of the City of Yonkers senselessly lost their lives as a result of these terrorist attacks.  The funding to assist those families and all of those that assisted in the months following needs to continue well into the future as many are still suffering from debilitating and life threatening diseases and illnesses as result of their heroic acts.

Currently, Congress has before it the Never Forget the Heroes Act which would extend the funding of the Victims Compensation Fund through the year 2090.  I encourage Congress to not wait another day and pass this important extension.
OLD CROTON AQUEDUCT CLEAN-UP
Please join us as we continue celebrating Earth Month by our annual clean-up of the Old Croton Aqueduct.  Residents are encouraged to join the City of Yonkers, Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct and New York State Parks in beautifying the Yonkers section of the trail. Volunteers are encouraged to register by visiting www.YonkersNY.gov or by calling 914-377-6429.
YONKERS PBA ST. BALDRICK'S FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER
The Yonkers Police Benevolent Association will be hosting the 10th Annual St. Baldrick's event.  The event will take place on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 2:00pm at Rory Dolan's Restaurant Bar.  The PBA has raised approximately $600,000!  Whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer, or donate, we hope you'll be a part of the excitement.  The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.  Get involved and you'll be giving hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers.  Be a hero for kids with cancer!
TOP HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH SERVICE AWARD
Mayor Mike Spano's Youth Advisory Board has created the "Top High School Youth Service" Award, which will recognize four of Yonkers' top high school student volunteers of 2019.  Students are encouraged to apply at
www.YonkersNY.gov to highlight their accomplishments as to why they are most deserving to receive the Top High School Youth Service Award. The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, May 3rd.
GARDENING TIPS
Need a little help with your "Green Thumb"?  Here are some tips from the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation to help you along.
RECYCLE COACH
Residents can access 'Recycle Coach,' free of charge, from mobile devices, or through digital assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Home. The platform makes it easy to receive local garbage disposal information for thousands of household items.

Residents who are interested can download the 'Recycle Coach' app for free at the iTunes Store and Google Play. For more information on the Yonkers Recycling Guide and on Recycle Coach, visit
www.YonkersNY.gov.
WATER & SEWER LINE PROTECTION
Many City residents are unaware that they are responsible for the water and sewer lines from their home to the main connection in the street.  Unfortunately, they usually become aware when there is an issue that requires repair.  A repair that often comes at a very significant expense.  The City of Yonkers selected American Water Resources as the official provider of the Water and Sewer Service Line Protection Program.  You may participate in Water Line Protection only, Sewer Line Protection only or both.  While these programs are voluntary, I recommend you visit the dedicated American Water Resources City of Yonkers website HERE or call them at (866) 315-4473 to learn more about these programs and the benefits of enrolling.
2019 RECYCLING & REFUSE GUIDE
Have you misplaced your recycling guide or just want to review it online?  You can view the guide HERE.  If you would like another paper copy please contact my office at (914) 377-6314 and it will be mailed to you.
