Yonkers NY (June 20, 2023). Yonkers mayoral candidate, Anthony Mernate’s special guest at his “Road to Victory” event will be Curtis Sliwa. Mr. Sliwa, the popular, outspoken WABC radio talk show host is best known as the founder of the Guardian Angels, a nonprofit organization for unarmed crime prevention. Sliwa was the Republican nominee in 2021 for Mayor of New York City.  Curtis is supporting Anthony Merante for Mayor of Yonkers.

 

Sliwa decided to get involved in the Yonkers mayoral race after reading the article in the NY Post. LoHud and other NYC broadcast  media  ( https://nypost.com/2023/05/21/yonkers-mayor-mike-spanos-brothers-run-lobbying-firm-with-biz-before-city/) about the rampant nepotism  and self-dealing of  the current Spano administration. Curtis admires Anthony Merante’s strength and leadership in calling out NYC’s Mayor Adams on his migrant transfer to Yonkers that left the City blind to any plan or details. Mr. Sliwa has also taken note of the rising crime in Yonkers especially the rash of recent  “gang violence”.  Yonkers like NYC has been adversely impacted by the current bail bond laws that put’s criminals back on the street after arrest.

 

Sliwa formed a civilian group the Guardian Angels that combated violence and crime on the New York City Subway when NYC was experiencing a crime wave. Curtis is fearless,  outspoken and does not back down in fighting injustice. He went after the Gambino crime family on his radio program. This angered John Gotti’s son so much that in 1992 he ordered a hit on Sliwa who was shot at point-blank range in the back of a New York taxicab. Federal prosecutors charged John A. Gotti,  with the attempted murder and a raft of other charges.
