HOMELESS IN YONKERS: The City of Yonkers' homeless population accounts for about 45% percent of all homeless households in Westchester County. Nearly 800 men, women and children, form the homeless population are sheltered by Westchester County in Yonkers on any given night. At least one bank has closed its ATM after hours access due to homeless people sleeping in the vestibule and one unhoused Yonkers resident was found dead one morning. Two years ago, the Yonkers City Council passed a ban on panhandling to curb beggars from harassing pedestrians in Getty Square. However, the Yonkers Police Department patrol officers have no interest in enforcing the cruel measure targeting the weakest members of Yonkers society. The increased the homeless population, particularly in City Council District 1, should be front and center involving any Democratic primary debates County Legislator Christopher A.
