BREAKING: Two Yonkers Police Department Officers assigned to the Third Precinct were attacked with a box cutter during an overnight Domestic Violence call FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Yonkers man arrested, charged with slashing Police Officers in neck and face PRESS RELEASE: On Sunday, August 7th, 2022, at approximately 12:43 AM, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to 125 Saratoga Avenue on a report of a domestic dispute and violation of an order of protection. YONKERS POLICE DEPARTMENT: Upon arrival officers met with the 34-year-old female victim who related her ex-boyfriend made entry into her apartment and refused to leave; after she called police, the male fled prior to their arrival. Officers then canvassed for the male and later went to the precinct to finalize her complaint. Approximately one hour later the suspect returned to the location and re-engaged the female, with the dispute escalating to violence: callers reported hearing the female scream for help; police responded to the scene. Officers forced entry into the apartment and located both parties arguing; as they attempted to place the suspect into custody, he actively resisted his arrest and fought with the officers: the suspect punched a female police officer in the face causing them to stumble onto an adjacent bed, where he then picked up a box cutter and slashed the arresting officers, stabbing the female officer in the neck and cutting a male officer on the chin; the male officer deployed his Taser device, subduing the suspect, and he was placed into custody. In addition to the box cutter, the suspect was found in possession of an imitation pistol. Both injured police officers and the suspect were transported to local area hospitals for medical treatment. Commissioner Chris Sapienza stated, “This incident highlights the dangers our police officers face everyday in protecting our communities – these injuries could have been life-threatening save for a few centimeters. Thankfully the officers will recover, and their actions ensure violent criminals like this individual are delivered into the Criminal Justice System where he must now be held accountable to the full extent of the law.” The suspect is identified as Patrick REDDON, a 37-year-old homeless individual living in the City of Yonkers. REDDON was charged with Attempted Assault 1 and Burglary 1, both Class B Violent Felonies in the New York State Penal Law, in addition to other crimes; he is expected to be arraigned later today. REDDON’s criminal history includes fifteen prior arrests, seven felony and eight misdemeanor. The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. Additional information may be released as it becomes available. NOTE: Booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. https://www.facebook.com/groups/YonkersNewswire/posts/3311683152422573/
