Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Today is a day we celebrate the strength of our nation's African American ancestors.
Juneteenth acknowledges the end of slavery and the ongoing pursuit of social justice and racial equity. It's a day for reflection, celebration, and education about the struggles and triumphs of the African American community.
This is an opportunity for all of us to learn about this historical event and engage in conversation. We honor the past by continuing to strive for inclusion.
I'm proud to say we are already doing that in the City of Yonkers.
I'd like to invite you to the Pan-African Flag Raising on Friday, June 20, at Washington Park at City Hall, on 40 South Broadway. On Saturday, June 21, the Yonkers African American Heritage Committee will be hosting its annual Juneteenth Festival at the JFK Marina from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Wishing the entire Yonkers community a happy and safe Juneteenth holiday.
MIKE SPANO
Mayor
