A Bill to Expand NY’s Greenway Network   At a hearing held by the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on June 28, a key bill on greenways was discussed. Intro 291, a bill sponsored by Carlina Rivera and Chair Brooks-Powers, would require the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to create a master plan for New York City’s greenways and to regularly engage with communities regarding proposed changes, updates, or repair work to greenway sections.  Read More

Buffalo Community Groups Join Map Project To Find and Replace Lead Water Pipes   Buffalo is making monumental strides forward when it comes to solving a century-old problem: the location of an estimated 40,000 drinking water pipes made from toxic lead, most of them likely to be found in low-income communities of color. Today local community groups, mapping experts, and elected officials held a kick-off event to announce development of an online, interactive map that will allow Buffalo residents to learn the known or likely composition of their home water pipes.    (Buffalo Rising)

Biden administration reverses Trump endangered species rule   Federal regulators Wednesday canceled a policy adopted under former President Donald Trump that weakened their authority to identify lands and waters where declining animals and plants could receive government protection. The move was the latest by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service undoing changes to the Endangered Species Act that industry and landowner groups had won under Trump.   (AP)

NY-10 Candidates Talk Climate Action at Environment-Focused Forum   Several Democratic candidates running to represent New York’s new 10th congressional district answered questions related to climate and sustainability challenges facing the district and New York City during a forum held at The Great Hall in Cooper Union Tuesday evening. Such issues are especially relevant in the district given that much of it is along the waterfront, whether its Manhattan or Brooklyn side.   (GothamGazette)
