New York State Insider: Statement from New York State Senator Democrat Shelley Mayer 37th District.

 

Dear friends,    First and foremost, I hope you and your families were able to remain safe as the remnants of Hurricane Ida moved through our area Wednesday night. Today, I toured Yonkers, Mamaroneck, Port Chester, New Rochelle and Tuckahoe to assess the damage from the storm. Many of our neighbors face a long clean up and recovery. If you have Ida-related damage or issues with which my office can help or connect you with the proper agency, please do not hesitate to reach out.    Before the storm, I was in Albany to address the COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program in an Extraordinary Session. We passed legislation that carefully threads the needle of protecting tenants who were unable to pay their rent through no fault of their own and getting money into the hands of landlords who were promised relief. More information is available below.    It is with a heavy heart that we remember the 13 American troops who were killed last week at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan. These brave young heroes' lives were cut tragically short. My thoughts are with their families and the veterans community during this extremely difficult time.    We must continue to remain vigilant in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. As the virus continues to spread with the emergence of the highly contagious Delta variant, we must follow science and use the tools available to us – masks and vaccines.
