One of my favorite programs I created as County Executive was the Astorino Challenge in Education, or ACE Challenge, where students who excelled in the classroom or had perfect attendance were rewarded with a free summer pass to Playland at the end of the school year. Dr. Iris Pagan ran the program with me and it meant a lot to so many students to be recognized for their hard work.
This upcoming school year represents a different sort of challenge but the goals remain the same - students strive for high achievement and steady improvement, and we support and encourage them every step of the way.
As the father of three school age children, a former school board member and the husband of a public school teacher, education has always been important to me and it will be one of my top priorities as State Senator.
