MAYOR SPANO TO ADDRESS IMPORTANCE OF ORGAN DONATION IN NY STATE FOR
ORGAN DONOR ENROLLMENT DAY, OCTOBER 10.
Mayor Spano to Be Joined By Yonkers Resident Whose Son’s Organs Were Donated And Saved Lives.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano along with LiveOnNY advocate and donor mother Carmen Hanchard, will gather at
Yonkers City Hall, Thursday, October 10 at 12:30PM to address the importance and raise awareness of organ donor enrollment in New York State.
Joining Mayor Spano will be LiveOnNY representative Ali McSherry and LiveOnNY advocate Carmen Hanchard whose son saved multiple lives through organ donation in the aftermath of his tragic death. Carmen
Hanchard is an active voice for organ donation at the State Capitol and beyond for organ donor enrollment awareness.
October 10 is Organ Donor Enrollment Day, led by LiveOnNY, which is focused on enrolling as many willing New Yorkers as possible as organ donors. Aside from
enrolling online at
http://liveonny.org/, potential organ donors can enroll in-person at Yonkers Will Library located at 1500 Central Park Avenue between 2PM-5PM.
Every 18 hours a New Yorker dies waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. Research shows 92% of New Yorkers support organ donation, but only 32% are registered as organ donors. Currently, there are nearly
10,000 people in New York State on an organ waiting list. New York State ranks 50th nationally in percent of residents registered as organ donors.
