NYLCV joins regional advocacy effort Our Transportation Future: In December 2018, most of the Transportation and Climate Initiative states committed to developing a clean transportation policy by the end of 2019. But New York was not part of that commitment. NYLCV joined other advocacy groups in Our Transportation Future to press for New York to act and advocate for the best approach to address emissions from the transportation sector.

Newsday published an editorial endorsing comprehensive climate change legislation that includes 70% renewable electricity by 2030, 100% clean energy by 2040, energy efficiency targets for utilities, and economy-wide carbon-neutrality by 2050. (Newsday)

U.S. Sen. Gillibrand is supporting federal legislation to require the EPA to establish an enforceable standard under the Safe Drinking Water Act for emerging contaminants in drinking water. These types of contaminants have been recently found in New York towns including Hoosick Falls, Newburgh, Plattsburgh and on Long Island. (Adirondack Daily Enterprise)

The Farmington Town Planning board voted unanimously to move forward in the decision-making process for a 7-megawatt solar farm project. (Canandaigua Daily Messenger)

A streetscape project in Kingston is on the way to being implemented as the State is willing to provide a right-of-way for a plot it owns in order to make way for the project. (Daily Freeman)

The Chairs of the State Senate and Assembly Environmental Conservation Committees Kaminsky and Englebright, with the support of our partner Citizens Campaign for the Environment, have introduced a bill to ban 1,4-dioxane in all personal care products sold in New York. This emerging contaminant has been linked to cancer. (Legislative Gazette)

The EPA has finally acknowledged that there could still be a lot of PCB cleanup needed in the Superfund site around the Hudson River. (Syracuse Post-Star)
